Artemis Ocean Racing Uses Williams Berth for Keel Fitting & Test
Artemis Ocean Racing fitted there keel & conducted their 180 degree test at our deep water berth in Southampton. This test is crucial for both the boat and the crew safety and is a requirement in order to race in the Artemis Transat and the Vendée Globe. The yacht must be able to right itself from capsize with no outside assistance. The procedure started with the yacht being fixed to a crane on the dock, which slowly inverted the yacht completely so the keel is in the air, simulating a capsize. Once upside down, the crew activated the hydraulic mechanism which saw the yacht turn a full 180 degrees and right itself.
