ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES – CONTINGENCY PLANNING AND RESPONSE TO OIL SPILLS

Williams Shipping Environmental has been involved in oil spill clean up for over fifty years. By holding key contracts with government organisations for oil spill counter pollution response we have been able to train and develop our staff to the highest standards.
From our base in Southampton and depots throughout the UK we are able to respond to incidents nationwide. Under the UK Oil Spill Contractors Accreditation Scheme, we are accredited to: Marine - Level 3, Freshwater – Level 2, Land - Level 2.
24 HOUR RESPONSE
In conjunction with our marine and road haulage divisions, our incident response team is ready to respond 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We hold airside liability insurance allowing us to deploy equipment direct to aircraft for rapid response.
BOOM DEPLOYMENT
With a wealth of experience in the marine environment we have built a reputation as one of the UK’s leading boom deployment specialists. We have deployed booms in Tier 3 oil spills in the UK and abroad. We have deployed booms on exercises nationwide as part of the Maritime and Coastguard Agencies ‘National Contingency Plan’. We hold our own stock of boom for use in coastal, estuarine and inland waterway incidents and for booming of ships during bunkering operations.
CONTINGENCY PLANNING
We have significant experience in the production of risk assessments, estuarine survey’s for boom deployment and spill recovery plans for use in contingency planning for both ports and local authorities.
COUNTER POLLUTION VESSELS AND EQUIPMENT
We operate a number of specialist marine response vessels which can quickly be dispatched to an incident site for use in booming and/or pollution recovery. As well as being qualified boat handlers, our marine staff are trained in the use of specialist counter pollution equipment. Our counter pollution equipment includes:
• floatation booms • sorbant booms • mobile oil recovery equipment • beach clean-up equipment
• specialist personal protective equipment • pollution storage tanks
Our equipment is containerised for fast dispatch to incidents nationwide.
WASTE MANAGEMENT
We work closely with specialist waste contractors and will ensure that any recovered waste is dealt with in accordance with the applicable legislation.
