MOBILISING THE WORLD’S TALLEST MASTS WITH MAGMA STRUCTURES
Manufactured by Magma Structures in Portchester, the world’s tallest masts were designed and built for a superyacht.
Working with heavy lift specialists Mammoet, the Williams Shipping team spent weeks carefully planning the move, one of the most unusual and memorable ever undertaken in the harbour.
The project required 3 of our vessels: the Willendeavour pulling the barge, the Wilwren acting as a rudder, and the Willjay acting as a break to navigate through the narrow channels of Portchester and into Portsmouth Harbour.
The move was particularly challenging, as the barge used to carry the 100 metre masts was 69 metres long and 16 metres wide. In certain sections, the Portchester channel is only 20m wide, with yachts moored either side, so it required particular care and attention.
NB: We no longer own Willjay.
